Kit or parts
Starter kit or individual parts?
Both routes end with a working robot. The right one depends on how much you want to plan yourself.
| Raspberry Pi Robot Starter Kit | Picking individual parts | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Pi 4, motor driver, sensors and chassis chosen to work together | Exactly the board, driver, sensors and servos your design calls for |
| Best for | First robots, classrooms, anyone who wants to start building right away | Custom designs, replacements, upgrades to an existing robot |
| Compatibility checks | Already done for the included parts | You confirm voltages, current and pin counts yourself |
| Power | Plan a battery and charger, available under Power & Charging | Size the battery to your motors and board |
| Room to grow | Add servos or extra sensors later | Swap any single part without replacing the rest |

Questions before you order
Are your components compatible with both Raspberry Pi and Arduino?
The Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver works with Pi GPIO and Arduino, and the HC-SR04 is a standard module that connects to any microcontroller. One detail for Pi users: the HC-SR04 echo pin outputs 5V, while Pi GPIO pins expect 3.3V, so add a simple resistor voltage divider on that line.
Do the starter kits include batteries and chargers?
The Raspberry Pi Robot Starter Kit is listed with a Pi 4, motor driver, sensors and chassis. Check the product page for the exact contents. If you need power, the 3000mAh Li-Ion Battery Pack and USB-C Smart Charger 3A are in the Power & Charging category.
Can I run the Pi straight from the 7.4V battery pack?
No. The Raspberry Pi 4 needs a regulated 5V supply, so use a 5V regulator or buck converter between the pack and the board. The motor driver can take the battery voltage for the motors. Battery selection for robotics projects covers capacity, weight and safety in more detail.
Can I power SG90 servos from the Pi?
Power the servos from a separate 5V supply and share a common ground with the Pi. Drawing servo current through the Pi's pins can cause resets or brownouts, especially when several servos move at once.
Can I buy individual parts or only complete kits?
Every part in the catalog is sold on its own, so you can buy a full kit, single components, or a mix in one order.
