Robotics electronics
Robotics parts for makers, from your first Raspberry Pi robot to a custom build
GearBay stocks the boards, batteries, sensors, motor drivers and kits that hobby robots run on. Start with a complete starter kit or pick individual parts for your own design. Not sure what fits your project? The Product Finder in the menu matches parts to what you want to build, and our guides explain how to wire, power and program them.

Why one catalog
Sourcing robot parts piece by piece vs. starting at GearBay
Most first robots stall on the same questions: which parts go together, and how to power them. Here is how the two routes compare.
| Sourcing parts piece by piece | With GearBay | |
|---|---|---|
| Where to start | Search many listings and guess at a parts list | Start from a starter kit or a single product line |
| Matching parts to a project | Read datasheets on your own | Use the Product Finder to narrow parts to your project |
| Board compatibility | Check each listing separately | Product pages state compatibility, for example Pi GPIO and Arduino on the motor driver |
| Power planning | Batteries and chargers bought from different places | Battery packs and chargers in one Power & Charging line |
| Learning how to use it | Scattered forum threads | Guides written around the parts we sell |
Always check the specs on each product page against your own design before you buy.
Pick your starting point
Different builders need different things. Choose the path closest to yours.
Building your first robot
If you have never built a robot, a kit removes most of the guesswork. The Raspberry Pi Robot Starter Kit includes a Pi 4, a motor driver, sensors and a chassis.
- Read Getting started with Raspberry Pi robotics before unboxing
- Check which batteries and chargers your kit needs
- Add a Breadboard & Jumper Wire Set for testing circuits without soldering
Designing your own robot
For your own design, buy only the parts you need. A typical mobile robot combines a board, a motor driver, sensors and a power source.
- Movement: Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver for two DC motors, or the SG90 Servo Motor 5-Pack for arms and camera mounts
- Sensing: Ultrasonic Distance Sensor HC-SR04 for obstacle detection
- Power: read Battery selection for robotics projects before choosing a pack
Teaching with robotics
Robotics is a practical way to teach electronics and programming. Kits give every student the same starting point, and individual components let advanced groups extend their builds.
Guides
Learn before you build

Battery Selection for Robotics Projects: Li-ion, NiMH, and Alkaline Compared
Battery choice affects every aspect of your robot's performance—runtime, weight, safety, and cost. This guide compares lithium-ion, nickel-metal hydride, and alkaline chemistries to help you match the right power source to your project.

US vs China Robotics Components in 2026: Where Should Hobbyists Buy?
The robotics component market has shifted dramatically. China now manufactures roughly three-quarters of its own precision parts domestically, while US suppliers face extended lead times and higher prices. Here's what hobbyists need to know when choosing between the two.
Questions before you order
Can I buy individual parts or only complete kits?
Both. Every component in the shop is sold on its own, and the starter kit bundles the core parts for a first robot.
Do the starter kits include batteries and chargers?
The starter kit description lists a Pi 4, motor driver, sensors and chassis. Battery packs and chargers are sold in the Power & Charging line. Check the kit's product page for its full contents before ordering.
Are your components compatible with both Raspberry Pi and Arduino?
It depends on the part, so each product page lists compatibility. For example, the Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver is listed for Pi GPIO and Arduino, and the HC-SR04 sensor is a standard module that connects to most microcontrollers.
How long does shipping take to the US?
Delivery times and costs depend on your address. Contact us before ordering if you need a delivery estimate for your location.
What is your return policy?
Our refund policy explains how to cancel an order, how returns and refunds work, and who to contact.
What happens to my personal data when I order or contact you?
Our privacy policy lists the data we collect, why we collect it and how long we keep it.
Questions about a part or an order?
Get in touch about orders, technical questions on a component, or orders for schools and workshops.
Tell us what you are building and which parts you are considering, and we will reply as soon as we can.
